Attenuation of Dispersed Waves
نویسنده
چکیده
A measure of the absorption of elastic waves is the specific absorption coe•cient 1/Q. In dispersive mediums, whether the dispersion is due to geometry, inhomogeneity, or both, measurements are often made outside the body and the measurements must be interpreted as to the distribution of values of 1/Q within the body. Two definitive experiments of this type are those performed using standing waves set up in a confined sample of the body and with waves that propagate through or on the surface of the body. Typical examples of these experiments involve the measurement of the damping coet•_cient of the free modes of vibration of the earth and the measurement of the attenuation factor

The Effect of Dynamic Permeability on Velocity and Intrinsic Attenuation of Compressional Waves in Sand
Stress waves contain useful information about the properties of porous materials; they can be recovered through different non-destructive testing methods such as crosswell, vertical seismic profile, borehole logging as well as sonic tests. In all these methods, it is crucial to assess the effects of frequency on wave attributes including velocity and intrinsic attenuation. The dependency of per...
متن کاملAnalysis of Plane Waves in Anisotropic Magneto-Piezothermoelastic Diffusive Body with Fractional Order Derivative
In this paper the propagation of harmonic plane waves in a homogeneous anisotropic magneto-piezothermoelastic diffusive body with fractional order derivative is studied. The governing equations for a homogeneous transversely isotropic body in the context of the theory of thermoelasticity with diffusion given by Sherief et al. [1] are considered as a special case. It is found that three types of...
متن کاملAn Estimation of Wave Attenuation Factor in Ultrasonic Assisted Gravity Drainage Process
It has been proved that ultrasonic energy can considerably increase the amount of oil recovery in an immiscible displacement process. Although many studies have been performed on investigating the roles of ultrasonic waves, based on the best of our knowledge, little attention has been paid to evaluate wave attenuation parameter, which is an important parameter in the determination of the energy...
متن کاملDetermination of sediments diameter using acoustic waves
The use of acoustic waves in researches related to sea water is of most importance among scientists recently. Since these waves are the only waves, transmitted in water with lowest attenuation and high speed, they can be used in many scientific fields. The main goal of this research is to better understand the physics and mechanisms of sound-seabed interaction, including acoustic penetration, p...
متن کاملMultiple scattering attenuation and anisotropy of ultrasonic surface waves
Multiple scattering of waves induces bulk effects such as attenuation and anisotropy that are important in seismology, optics, medical imaging, and other fields involving propagation in disordered media. We report here measurements of ultrasonic surface wave propagation in a strong-scattering, quasiperiodic medium consisting of a grooved surface of aluminum. Using noncontacting optical methods ...
